The Zoo

On Fridays I try to do something a little special with the kids; go to the park or the play place, just something out of the ordinary to spice up the week.

There is a park in the middle of town that has a mini zoo. They are rescued animals that were injured in a way to which they can never be released back into the wild, even when fully healed. We tried going there once on Labor Day, but as soon as we arrived at the park, it started pouring. We looked at everything quickly and got super soaked, but wanted to get the whole experience.

I took the kids again Friday and Jason was even able to come with us as long as he was reading his papers (working vacation).

The American Alligators. There are two and you can view them from the platform overlooking the pond or from the side of the pond where you can see above and below the water through glass.

The Barn Owl. There are quite a few birds, pheasant, vulture, hawk, sever species of owl.

Checking out the birds.

Trying to get a view of the snake. Carter is enamored by them.

Cute Cubs.

He "whoo-ed" the whole time he was in the hole.

The Bald eagles. They were injured so bad that they cannot fly at all. There is no top to their enclosure. They hop everywhere. And because there is a male in there, the  female nests, carrying up sticks as she hops from the ground up to her perch.

Checking out more animals.

The biggest of the 3 black bears. Sleepy after his snack.

Carter kept asking why the turtle was not in water.

The bobcats. Blended in so well that we could not even find the other one in the enclosure.
Overall a success, but Carter was more interested in following the people around us and no one wanted to stay in the stroller.
